My dad is somewhat radical in his own mild way. From our early years, he’d always say things like, “your comfort zone is not a bad place. It’s the best place to be in. Just don’t get lethargic in it.”
We used to say, “yes sir” without actually fully understanding it. Besides, every single personal development book we read said otherwise. They painted the comfort zone as a lazy place.
Well, now I agree with my dad, and the other few people who think the same way. Emphasis on few.
Your comfort zone is a place where you’re most confident and comfortable. That’s how Merriam-Webster dictionary defines it. It’s not a place where you’re lazy.
A writer is most confident and comfortable when he writes, regardless of what he’s writing and to whatever magnitude. Same with a craftsman when he creates, a painter when he paints, a strategist when he creates strategy, a developer when he codes, a work-from-home entrepreneur when he works from home, and so on.
Leveraging your comfort zone then means pushing yourself to limits you never thought you could be pushed to. It means learning everything you need to know about your craft and implementing everything.
It could mean writing books instead of just articles, creating a design course instead of just designing for clients, or helping people get medical help easily through an app instead of just building 2D games.
Or like me, writing daily instead of only when you have inspiration (which could be once in a year…lol!).
So the wrongest advice is to leave your comfort zone. My advice is to upgrade your game in that comfort zone. If you think you have attained the highest height that your skills can offer, think again. There’s always one more step to go.
I wrote an article that just got published on an top personal development blog: Addicted2Success. This post is an excerpt of the published article titled: 3 Principles That Can Make You Ultra-Successful In 10 Years Or Less.
