I have many special notebooks in my library. But there’s this one where I’m most vulnerable in. I write about the challenges I face, my fears, and I even dabbled into poetry in that same book. The more reason why it’s for my eyes only…lol!
But as I sat down one day to blurt out my thoughts in ink, my mind went back to the many motivational seminars I had attended in the past. And I realized one ugly truth…
For some of them, their advice was contradictory.
Let me explain…
You see, the reason why we often look like a confused bunch is because we don’t sieve through the information receive. And the reason why we’re unable to sieve through is because after receiving such information, we don’t act on them.
They “ginja” us for a moment and stay in our minds, but we fail to practice in order to find what suits us.
When a motivational speaker climbs a stage to “motivate you”, he does that using his personal life experience. He draws lessons out of that and teaches you.
Now imagine if you had three different Motivational speakers in one seminar.
It means if they’re good public speakers, you’d have jumped from your seat in excitement at least three times screaming “ride on sir”. It means you’d see three different people you want to be like in future.
And it means when you get home, you’ll have three different ideologies in your mind, and three different paths to choose, with you standing at the junction.
So how do you choose one? The answer is in the application.
As you embark on a journey, you’ll start to see where the lessons from speaker 1 fit you and where they don’t. With that, you’ll then start to apply lessons from speaker 2 and 3, discarding the ones that don’t suit your unique path and imbibing those that do. This is how you form your own path.
However, even application can be hard if you don’t have the right direction.
One of the most frequent prayer requests I have is for the Holy Spirit to direct me. I’m not all-knowing, but He is and He knows my path. So why not take some expo from Him instead of guessing on my own?
Do you have the Holy Spirit? Just like the image in this post, the Holy Spirit will not just hold your hand. He’ll practically carry you as long as you decide to depend on him.
Do you have the Holy Spirit? If you don’t, it’s quite easy. You don’t need to fill an exam form or prove that you’re a sane person. Even in your confused/bad/drunken/sinful/unfocused state, all you need to do is…
Ask.
That, to me, is the best and easiest way to sieve through a multitude of teachings and get the direction you need.
