A few years ago when I discovered that writing came easily for me, I wanted to do it for the rest of my life.
It felt like a drug…like fire burning through my veins.
I was always high when the idea of documenting my thoughts came up. I wasn’t the best. I’m still not the best. It’s just something that’s easy for me to do.
But, a few years later, all that adrenaline and addiction seemed to disappear. In fact, for a few years, I didn’t “write”.
While I spent many years writing copy for clients and for business purposes, I wasn’t feeling the essence of the gift.
It wasn’t until a few months ago that I was reminded of why I had the gift in the first place.
So how did someone who used to get high on writing suddenly become the master of abstinence without experiencing withdrawal symptoms?
My answer to that is lack of consistency.
What were you once “high” on? Is that still the case, or do you need to revisit your first love? Perhaps all it takes to become drunk on your gift is to keep putting one foot in front of the next daily. Use it daily. That’s work.
The excitement in using your gift isn’t always found when the goal is to earn from it. You find that excitement when you just do it for the fun of it…no gains attached. You can combine both on a daily basis.
That fun will eventually lead to greater benefits that we can’t forsee.
