No general rule states that the reward of the work you do should be salary or capacity building or new connections.
The rewards depend on what phase of life you are in. If you're sensitive enough to recognise the different phases in your life, you'll be in control of the rewards you get from offering your service to someone else. You'll be able to demand the right rewards.
Unfortunately, the only reward most people demand is salary. Just because Miss A started getting a salary immediately after graduation doesn't mean your journey should be the same. She may have done some capacity building projects before graduation that you don't know about.
But God is faithful. Even for people with zero foresight, He's able to set things up such that whoever hires you defines the right kind of reward you should get at that time.
It's okay to tell Him how confused you feel about the phase you're in. I do that. You may be angry at the fact that the reward isn't what you want and may lead to a lot of struggle for you, but God's will is like a well-oiled machine.
Let it run its course.
